The Studio

A one-person game studio in Cheltenham, with a longer run-up than most.

What this is

Web Level Up is a small independent game studio based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. It builds co-op games in Unreal Engine 5, publishes what it learns as it goes, and is currently pointed entirely at one game: CropCorp.

How it got here

Web Level Up started as a web design and software business. It built websites, shipped WordPress plugins, and spent a lot of years getting good at making things load fast and work properly on a phone. That was real work and it paid for the lights.

Games were always the actual goal. In 2026 the studio stopped treating that as a someday project and made it the whole plan. The website you are reading used to be an agency site; it is a studio site now, which is a fairly literal way of saying the same thing.

The engineering habits came along for the ride. A game is a systems problem wearing a costume, and years of building software for other people turns out to be reasonable preparation for building a day/night loop that has to stay fair at four players.

How we work

  • Co-op first. Every system is designed to be better with someone else in it, and to still hold up alone.
  • Built in the open. Prototype screenshots, dead ends and rewrites all go in the devlog. Nothing waits until it looks finished.
  • No dates until they are real. The roadmap moves when the build moves.
  • Small on purpose. No publisher, no headcount to feed, no reason to ship something we would not play.

The other things

The studio still maintains a couple of WordPress plugins, including DineKit, a free restaurant plugin. They have their own customers and their own homes, and they are not what this site is about any more. If you own a licence, the plugins page is where it lives.
